“Shield & Stillness: A Viking-Themed Mindfulness Retreat at Hoghton Tower”

Our shield of strength Guided meditations. Our unique sound bath using instruments evocative of Norse culture — deep drums, horns, and voice. Group connection drawing on the spirit of the shield wall — strength through unity. Gentle movement practices reminiscent of warrior grounding and body awareness. Time for reflection in the peaceful gardens and ancient halls of Hoghton Tower.

This evening you will …

Step back in time and reconnect with your inner strength at Shield & Stillness, a unique Viking-inspired mindfulness retreat held within the ancient stone walls of Hoghton Tower.

A mindfulness session held in an ancient fortress with a Nordic theme can be an incredibly powerful and transformative experience, deeply rooted in atmosphere, symbolism, and the primal connection between mind, place, and tradition. Here’s why:

1. Power of the Setting

  • Ancient Stone and Silence: The thick, timeworn walls of a fortress create a profound silence and sense of shelter. This helps deepen presence by removing modern distractions and grounding participants in stillness.
  • Echoes of the Past: The historic energy of such a space evokes reverence. Practicing mindfulness where ancient warriors once stood taps into a lineage of resilience, focus, and
  • This beautiful venue you can immerse yourself  in raw nature—wind, snow, moss-covered stone—making every breath feel you are reconnecting to your own self care

Hyggeligt Fest

Cosy community festival of wellbeing

Held at The ABD Centre Burnley Road Bacup Lancashire OL13 8AB

This is our third year of our unique well-being festival with Nordic themed cultivation of health.

We want you to experience an event like no other!

Hygge  HYOO-GA Danish:  is a word in Danish that describes a cozy, contented mood evoked by comfort and conviviality. This will be a fantastic festival and something different to embrace wellness healing and self care. We will create a warm cost atmosphere and enjoy chat, hot water bottles, wooly socks and a warm glow.

Like the Danes who are known as one of the happiest nations we will cultivate and enjoy some happy time together in this difficult world. We will be certainly be doing this in the beautiful zen room at the Healing Centre Bacup

Hygge refers to “a form of day to day togetherness”, “a pleasant and highly valued everyday experience of safety, equality, personal wholeness and a spontaneous social flow”

We will come together and practice powerful and beautiful techniques of mindfulness. The Nordic drum will sound with our Nordic Sound Session.

Hot chocolate and cake by candlelight as the Danes love their hot chocolate as we sit in our togetherness circle. We will bless and drink mindfully as we hear the beauty of the Saami Nordic drum with its beautiful resonant sound.

The festival will be invigorating for your mind and a lovely vibrant nature to stimulate your senses especially during these cold winter months.

You will hear the beautiful Nordic sound chants to lower our breathing rate. The human heartbeat will tend to match the rhythm of music. This will slow our breathing rate and heart rate and change our brain wave pattern from beta to alpha. The chants also calm our nervous system and affect metabolism.

Myself and Heather are so happy to invite you to a lovely evening.
